Eugene Sims – Defensive End – West Texas A&M

General:A true big-playmaker at defensive end, Sims has positioned himself as one of the top defensive lineman in the country.

2008: Recognized as Lone Star Conference Co-Defensive Lineman of the Year, Sims was the Buffs’ starting defensive end in all 13 games. During that time, he registered 56 tackles (18 solo, 36 assisted), third-highest among Buff defenders. He registered 13 tackles for minus-61 yards, while his 10 QB sacks were a team high (as well as tyingfor the fifth-most on the WT single-season sack chart). Sims also had eight QB hurries anda pair of PBUs.

 

Junior College: Sims recorded 51 tackles, five QB sacks three tackled for losses and one forced fumble as a sophomore at Jones County (Miss.) Junior College. He was rewarded at season’s end with an appearance in the MACJC All-Star game. Sims moved to the defensive line in 2006 after being a nine-game starter for the Bobcats at strong safety in 2005.

High School: Sims enjoyed a standout prep career at Mize (Miss.) HS, competing in football as well as track & field.
